Tripurantakam : It is 40kms northeast
of Markapuram. Tripurantakeswara Temple is one of the famous Saiva
Pilgrimages. It is one the Kumaradri, Bala Tripura Sundari Temple is in
the middle of a tank.
Manikeswaram : 32kms northwest of
Ongole, Mandukeswara Swamy temple built by Chola Raja. From this it was
called Mandukeswara Nilayam which got corrupted into Manikeswaram. The
temple is on a hill.
Motupalli : It is 13kms southeast of
Chirala. Its old name is Mohanapuram. It was famous during the reigns of
Satavahanas, Pallavas, Chalukyas and Cholas. Velapuri built by Buddhists
is neat it. Many Buddhist stupas are there.
Markapuram : It is on the tanks of
Gundlakamma, Chenna Kesava Swamy temple is famous. The morning son rays
fall on the feet of Chennakesava in Uttarayana and on the feet of
Mahalaxmi in Dakshinayana.
Bhargava Konda : 64kms from Kanigiri
and 42kms from Pamuru. Durga Bhairava Swamy temple here is ancient. It
is in the middle of forests. Waterfall of 60 metres highlight is here.
Malakonda : 30kms from kandukur.
Malyadri Narasimha Swamy temple is here. It is a beautiful place in a
thick forest on a small hill. It is an important pilgrimage in the
Singarayakonda : It is at a distance of
45kms from Ongole. There is Prasanna Anjaneya Swamy Temple. Every year a
festival is conducted by devotees on phalguna purnima.
Climate : Temperature is normal here.
It is very hot in summer. Rainfall decreases from south to north.
Southwest monsoon gives rains.
Agriculture and Industries : There are
red soil lands up to 70% and 20% block cotton soil. The remaining is
alluvial. 36.48% of the total area of the district is under cultivation.
Southern part lands are not conducive for farming and they are used for
other purposes. Slab stone is available from Obanayapalli to Mallapeta
in 80% of the slab stone is available here. There is a coastline of
105kms. Fishing Industry is active. The population of fishermen is
